My Journey

Why Functional Nutrition should be part of yours.

Jeanned'arc Haddad, RDN, LDN

I started my career path by putting into practice the foundational skills that I have been taught in college in the pharmaceutical industry where I helped support the development of medications in the field of analytical chemistry.  Knowing that medication played an important role for many peoples lives I also knew that there was a strong connection to health through food and began working as a registered dietitian in various areas in nutrition. My course changed significantly when my son was born with multiple nutritional challenges including maldigestion, malabsorption and celiac disease.  Remembering my Lebanese relatives who healed illness with the natural herbs and food that grew around them, I sought natural and alternative ways to heal my son’s gut and therefore begin healing him as a whole not just treating symptoms.  Through the journey of my son’s diagnosis and healing,  I have redefined my personal belief that nutrition should be the source of healing rather than relying on medication alone.

I attended the University of Connecticut for Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in dietetics, and completed my dietetic internship at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut. I have worked as a clinical dietitian in hospitals, nursing homes, out-patient setting and in a Functional & Integrative practice.  I have experience with a variety of conditions including diabetes as a certified diabetes educator, cardiovascular conditions from working in a cardiovascular rehabilitation center and allergies from the personal experience of multiple relatives.

I strongly believe that food is one of the best forms of medicine, I also practice from a root-cause standpoint. I am invested in getting my patients healthy and well by healing the root-cause of issues rather than covering up symptoms. I have been taught and in turn teach the concept that a good foundation is necessary in order to have good health.

I have a great passion about food – both as a vocation and as a hobby. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen doing what I call “experimental cooking.” With two young children who have allergies, I enjoy the challenge to be creative in the kitchen.  I take much pride in creating and modifying dishes that not only eliminate allergens, but also infuse some extra nutrition by unobtrusively incorporating fruits and vegetables into my cooking.

What is Functional Nutrition?

Functional Medicine approaches the body from the perspective of treating the root cause of disease.  It  looks at the foundational way that food affects your body on a cellular level.  The food you eat in turn creates an environment that is balanced and thriving or can create disease/illnesses such as fatigue, brain fog, gastrointestinal distress and external symptoms like eczema and psoriasis.

Traditional medicine is often centered around treating symptoms and while symptoms can offer insight into the body’s condition, my approach uses a combination of nutritional and lifestyle changes, along with natural agents (supplements, herbs, nutraceutical) to treat and heal the root-cause.

Whether we will be working together to uncover the root cause of illness or to create a holistic plan for healthier living my approach will help you off the roller-coaster ride you have been on since your body began to change.

I use an approach to healing called functional medicine. Through this method we will:
  1. ADD what’s lacking in the body preventing you from optimal function.  This may include the addition of physical activity and dietary changes to optimize nutritional balance.
  2. REMOVE anything that impedes the body from moving toward this optimal state of well-being.  Their maybe certain foods that are causing an inflammation response or a nutritional deficiency that is blocking the body's ability to heal.

Our bodies are designed to be healthy.  However there may be factors missing that are needed by the body to function at its best or something might be standing in the way of its functioning.  I will help you first identify the factors that are responsible for such malfunctioning.

Food is an integral part of health and can be helpful or harmful based on an individual’s makeup. Eliminating foods or adding foods can be helpful for people with disease or for people who want to live a healthier lifestyle.

I am excited to show you the life changing and life lasting approach to Rebalance 4 Health.

"I thoroughly enjoy working with Jeanned'arc! She has made such a difference in my overall health. She is lovely and smart and generous with her knowledge. She has taught me how to heal my body by eating the right foods and in the right combination. I have struggled with my weight since I was 9 and had gone undiagnosed with Candida, leaky gut and brain fog for years. After finally being diagnosed, I was referred to Jeanned'arc. Under her care she has changed my diet and my life. I have lost weight, kept it off and I feel significantly healthier both mentally and physically. Thank you Jeanned'arc!"
